Get to know...Dianne Targa

This month, we're excited to highlight Dianne Targa, Administrator Coordinator at the Alberta School of Business. We learn about her favourite travel destination, hobbies and her best advice for new colleagues!

What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?

I’ve always had a passion for art and design. I collect Lego art pieces, like Hokusai’s Great Wave and Van Gogh’s Starry Night, which I find both creative and inspiring. Recently, I’ve also started designing invitations for a few friends, combining my love for art with a personal touch

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or day off?

I absolutely love café hopping around our city, and I've found that Edmonton has some truly amazing spots to explore. Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to relax or a lively spot to meet up with friends, there’s something for everyone. If I had to recommend just one, I’d definitely say Café Sole is a must-visit.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would love to revisit Japan. The hospitality is truly exceptional—warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. The food is even better, with every dish offering incredible flavors, from sushi to street food.

What’s a hobby or skill you’ve recently picked up (or would like to try)?

I’ve been taking swimming lessons at our local rec center, and it’s been an amazing journey so far. My ultimate goal is to become a dedicated fitness swimmer—someone who can not only perfect flip turns but also build the endurance to swim longer distances. I’m really excited to keep challenging myself and refining my skills, with the hope of reaching new heights in the water.

Do you have a favorite meal or go-to comfort food?

My favorite meal is Kare-Kare, a beloved Filipino dish. It’s made with tender oxtail and vegetables, all cooked in a rich, creamy peanut sauce. The combination of flavors is absolutely delicious, and it’s a dish that always brings warmth and comfort to me.

What inspires or motivates you the most in your day-to-day life?

I’m motivated by the belief that learning never stops. Every day brings a new opportunity to grow, whether it's through challenges, experiences, or new ideas. That drive to always improve keeps me going.

Can you share a bit about your role and what brought you to the Alberta School of Business?

I’m the Administrative Coordinator for the School of Business, where I collaborate closely with the ADM’s and ADC’s to address any administrative, HR, and financial queries we receive from our faculty. In addition to this, I assist with organizing school events, including the Princeton Lectures, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

What’s been your most memorable moment at the Alberta School of Business so far?

I recently helped plan and coordinate the Princeton Lectures event with the Department of Finance. The event had a great turnout, and it was rewarding to hear that so many people enjoyed it. It’s always nice to know that attendees are looking forward to our next event!

What’s one piece of advice you’d share with a new colleague joining the school?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Our school fosters a great workplace community, where we are always striving for everyone's success and supporting each other every step of the way.
