About ICTC:

The International Commodities Trading Competition (ICTC) is the flagship event hosted by the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta, designed to introduce participants worldwide to the complexities of commodities trading. Participants are challenged to make strategic, well-informed decisions in a competitive, real-time environment. Along the way, participants exchange knowledge and build global networks of fellow participants while gaining valuable insights through comprehensive training and hands-on experience. With engaging competition, international connections, and the chance to win exciting prizes, ICTC offers a rewarding and enriching experience for future traders.

  • Date of Competition: March 14, 2025

  • Team size for registration: Individual or a team of 2

  • Eligibility:

    • Any student studying business, engineering or computer science in a registered post-secondary institution.

    • Any graduate from a registered post secondary institution with less than 4 years of experience.

  • Region: Global

  • Mode: Virtual

  • Registration Cost: CA $250 + taxes.

  • Format: 3 Rounds (1 hour each) with 0.5 hours strategic break between each round, followed by a 2 hour limit to write the investment thesis and learnings (template will be provided).

  • Results: Same day. 2-3 hours after the submission deadline.

  1. Is the registration cost per team or per individual?
    The registration cost is per team. A team can be a single individual or two members.

  2. What are the key steps for registration?
    Click on “Register Today” button above. Fill the Google form. Make your payment on EventBrite. Return to the Google form for confirmation of registration.

  3. What will the format be for the training session in February?
    The training session will be held by the QI Team to run you through the software which will be used for the competition. Additionally, the session will also include some key information.
