Image shows fusome endomembrane bridges (red) connecting spermatocyte nuclei (green). More information: In a study recently published in Molecular Biology of the Cell (American Society of Cell Biology), PhD student Ramya Varadarajan (Campbell laboratory) discovered that Myt1 regulation of Cyclin A/Cdk1 is essential for coordinating remodelling of endomembrane bridges (fusomes) that connect spermatocytes and maintaining centriole engagement during meiosis. Mutants lacking this mechanism have defective fusomes and multipolar spindles that are associated with male sterility.
