Tom Stevenson, ‘73 BSc, ‘73 DDS

Tom was born in Edmonton and received his DDS (with distinction) and BSc from the University of Alberta in 1973. He completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and received his MSc. from the University of Illinois in 1979. In 1980 he returned to Edmonton and opened his practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery. In 1981 he joined the part-time academic staff in the Faculty of Dentistry.
In 2009 he joined the full-time academic staff in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Dentistry as Division Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also served as Associate Chair of Student Affairs, Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs and Vice Chair. Retiring in 2023, he remains a strong supporter of the U of A. Tom is a founding member of the Alberta Society of Dental Specialists and is a past president of the Alberta Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He and his wife Pat met at the University of Alberta and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They have 3 wonderful children and four beautiful grandchildren. He enjoys the arts, nature photography and spending time at his wildlife and habitat sanctuary.
