Jaret spent three years as the chief of Sucker Creek First Nation; during this role, he led the signing of the United League of Indigenous Nations Treaty as co-chair, and was elected as the Grand Chief of Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta to represent the collective interests of the 23 First Nations of Treaty 8 (Alberta), and work with the Grand Chiefs of Treaty 6 and 7 in collaboration on First Nations issues with the Government.

Jaret has been an active volunteer in his community.  For example he coached the Saddle Intermediate Boys basketball team that competed at the Indigenous Summer Games. His son is now attending the Faculty of Native Studies and Jaret speaks positively about the University of Alberta and how so many progressive changes are occuring. He has served for 2 years on the Indigenous Alumni Advisory Circle attending meetings virtually. He also participated in a Native Studies consultation session on program improvements.

For the past 25 years, he has been working in the area of Indigenous Relations. Jaret has worked with Indigenous Leaders, had the privilege of being elected to lead his community, and for the past 10 years he has worked with the Oil and Gas sector. This included working extensively with Imperial Oil to create and enhance relationships with the 12 Indigenous communities surrounding the Cold Lake region. Jaret is currently the Senior Indigenous Relations Advisor for ARC Resources Ltd., working to develop a Local and Indigenous Content Strategy that seeks to maximize Indigenous participation and develop opportunities for local and Indigenous Businesses in Alberta and BC.
