Donna Shelley
The Honourable Donna Shelley, KC, ’76 BA, ’79 LLB
Faculty of Law Representative
Following her graduation in 1979, Donna practiced law until December 15, 2006. During her years of legal practice, Donna occasionally audited courses of interest at the University of Alberta. She also volunteered with a number of organizations, including acting as a moot court judge at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, an Equity Advisor for the Law Society of Alberta, an instructor at the Bar Admission course, a speaker at numerous seminars and conferences, and positions with the Rotary Club of Edmonton and its Foundation.
Between 1991 and 2006, Donna was a member of several adjudicative tribunals, including the Citizens’ Appeal Panel, the Municipal Government Board, and the Law Enforcement Review Board.
Donna was appointed Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 2002, received the Province of Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005, and received a Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of Edmonton.
Donna was appointed as a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench (now King’s Bench) on December 15, 2006. While a member of that Court, Donna served on a number of committees and held various positions. During an 8 month Study Leave as Justice in Residence at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, Donna was actively involved in interacting with students, faculty and staff.
Since retiring from the Bench in January 2022, Donna has resumed many of the volunteer activities she enjoyed prior to her appointment and has attended several lectures, seminars and events put on by the University of Alberta. As a life-long learner, Donna welcomes the opportunity of interacting with those who share that interest, and to encouraging others to strengthen their ties to, and support of, the University of Alberta.
