The Department of AFNS attracts over $20 million in research funding every year, which supports research and teaching on North and South Campus in plant, animal, food processing and bio-resource, human nutrition, agri-food materials, genomics and proteomics and food microbiology. Furthermore, we manage extensive research infrastructure at the Edmonton Research Station, Roy Berg Kinsella Research Ranch, Mattheis Research Ranch, and St. Albert Research Station.

Research disciplines include nutrition and metabolism, microbiology, immunology, reproductive physiology, genetics and genomics, meat quality, and ethology to support optimal health and production efficiency in domestic animal species.

Food Science and Bioresource Technology research takes an integrated approach to value-added utilization of agricultural commodities, targeting both food and industrial products.
