ELP Exemption
Applicants from outside of Canada may meet their English proficiency requirement based on the university they have attended or the country in which they reside. Some conditions apply.
English proficiency at the U of A includes two categories:
- English Language Proficiency (ELP): required for all programs
- Spoken English Proficiency (SEP): required for some programs
Countries that Satisfy English Proficiency
Applicants from the following countries are recognized as having met the English proficiency requirement, with the following conditions:
- To meet the ELP, they must have been educated at a qualifying educational institution for a minimum of three years.
- To meet the SEP, they must have been educated at a qualifying educational institution for a minimum of six years.

- A-levels from Cameroon GCE Board
- Requires at least a grade of B in GCE O-level English Language or Literature

- CBSE All India Senior Secondary School Certificate
- Minimum 75% in one of Core English/Elective English/Elective English C
- or 80% in Functional English
- CISCE Indian School Certificate
- Minimum 75% in English

You must also present a National Senior Certificate (which requires a passing grade in English Home Language)
Universities that Satisfy English Proficiency
Applicants in good standing at one of these listed universities are recognized as having met the English proficiency requirement, with the following conditions:
- To meet the ELP, they must have been educated at the post-secondary level at a qualifying educational institution for a minimum of three years.
- To meet the SEP, they must have been educated at the post-secondary level at a qualifying educational institution for a minimum of six years.
