In 2010 Harald Becher, MD, PhD joined the University of Alberta and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. He held the position of Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut Chair for Cardiovascular Research for 10 years and currently holds a position as professor of Medicine and Alberta Cardiovascular and Stroke Research Centre (ABACUS) Director.
In 2000 he became Professor at Bonn University and the chairman of the working group “Cardiovascular Ultrasound” of the German Cardiac Society (GCS). A year later he moved to Oxford, UK and worked as a Professor of Cardiac Ultrasound at Oxford University, lead in non-invasive imaging and consultant cardiologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Professor Becher’s research has involved development of echocardiographic techniques like colour Doppler Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography, Contrast Echocardiography and the impact of the new ultrasound imaging modalities on patient management. He has written the Handbook of Contrast Echocardiography and is one of the co-editors of the Oxford Handbook of Echocardiography. He has written 10 book chapters and is the author of more than 100 scientific papers. Professor Becher is co-editor of the Journal Echocardiography and member of the editorial board of the Journal of the European Society of Echocardiography.
