Committees
During the academic year, much of Senate's work is carried out at the committee level. Senators strive to communicate the needs and views of Albertans to the University and the Alberta government, and to interpret to the public the many different facets of the the University. To accomplish this, ad hoc committees or working groups may be set up to consider specific issues or undertake particular projects.

Senate Standing Committees
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
ONGOING MANDATE - Advise Chancellor, contribute to Senate resource planning, recommend the striking of Senate task forces or Senate working groups, and design plenary meeting agendas.
HONORARY DEGREE SELECTION COMMITTEE
ONGOING MANDATE - Review nominations, approve outstanding Honorary Degree recipients, and enhance University traditions and celebrations.
DRAFT Terms of Reference Principles, Policies & Procedures
INDIGENOUS INITIATIVES & EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE
ONGOING MANDATE - To ensure the Senate Strategic Plan priority on Indigenous Initiatives and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is moved forward thoughtfully and intentionally.
NOMINATING AND REVIEW COMMITTEE
ONGOING MANDATE - Encourage and review outstanding applications to Senate, undertake term renewal and exit interviews, support new members of Senate to engage with their role, and support Senate Alumni.
SENATE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
ONGOING MANDATE - Facilitate effective communication to and by Senators about activities and opportunities offered by both Senate and the University of Alberta; seek out, create, and shepherd resources and connections to support Senators in their mandate of Inquire, Promote, and Connect; and build awareness of the mandate and role of the University of Alberta Senate.
STUDENT EXPERIENCE COMMITTEE
ONGOING MANDATE - Committee members inquire about student issues within their geographical, institutional, community and interests groups in order to share information that is useful and interesting to the committee and to the Dean of Students Office. Explore opportunities through the Dean of Students Office to support awareness and promotion of student issues in order to build a culture of wellness on UAlberta campuses. Connect local organizations, governments, and agencies to become informed about student issues as well as to highlight initiatives and successes experienced on U of A campuses.
U SCHOOL ADVISORY AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE - NEW
ONGOING MANDATE - Support operation and evaluation of the program that welcomes students in grades 4-9 from schools in socially vulnerable, Indigenous (FNMI), and rural communities to a week-long learning opportunity at the University of Alberta. Develop, strategize and execute external fundraising, promotion and relationship management for the U School program that welcomes students in grades 4-9 from schools in socially vulnerable, Indigenous (FNMI), and rural communities to a week-long learning opportunity at the University of Alberta.
