Framework for Effective Teaching

The Framework for Effective Teaching establishes a structured approach to considering and evaluating teaching in its diverse and inclusive aspects while ensuring holistic consideration.

The Framework for Effective Teaching comprises five domains:

  • Expertise, Content, and Outcomes
  • Course Design
  • Instructional Practice
  • Learning Environments
  • Reflection, Growth, and Leadership.
The Framework for Effective Teaching comprises five domains: Expertise, Content, and Outcomes. Course Design. Instructional Practice. Learning Environments. Reflection, Growth, and Leadership.

These five domains span the full array of teaching activities, with equity and inclusivity as a theme running through each domain. The framework:

  • Provides a structured means of reflecting on and taking action to improve teaching practice across multiple facets.
  • Ensure that instructors and evaluators share a common understanding of quality teaching indicators to support thorough, equitable teaching evaluation, which aligns with institutional goals for quality teaching.

The Framework will help you consider the following:

  • How can you improve students' learning experience in our courses?
  • How do we know what aspects of your teaching practice are effective and what could be improved?
  • What methods are available to you to facilitate the continual development of your teaching practice?
  • How will you know if your newly learned interventions have impacted learning?
