Ukrainian Archival Collections in Canada: Preserving the Past, Building the Future

The "Ukrainian Archival Collections in Canada: Preserving the Past, Building the Future" conference was held at the University of Alberta on 11-13 May. Organized by the Kule Folklore Centre (KuFC), the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS), and the Friends of the Kule Folklore Centre, the three-day event brought together some 70 archivists, academics, and community members interested in the state of Ukrainian archives in Canada and the challenges they face in the future. Presenters from CIUS included Andrij Makuch on the history of Institute activity regarding archives; Oleksandr Pankieiev and Viktoriya Yakovleva on the development of the CIUS digital archives project; and director Jars Balan, who provided closing remarks and reflections on the proceedings. Balan, Pankieiev, and Yakovlyeva also served on the organizing committee. The conference program can be viewed at: http://ukrainian-archives.artsrn.ualberta.ca/.
