Faculty of Education Representative

Robert Gardner graduated from the Faculty of Education in 1986, and later completed a Master of Education degree in 2000.

He taught high school Social Studies from 1986 to 2021 in Edmonton Public Schools. In that time, he contributed to the writing of the Alberta curriculum, co-authored several textbooks (for Social Studies and Aboriginal Studies), and wrote articles about his experiences as a teacher. He also assisted with a number of research projects conducted by the Faculty of Education, mentored pre-service teachers in his classrooms, and participated in an international school partnership (with Finland) through the Alberta Teachers’ Association. For nearly 20 years as a teacher, he sent student delegates to the annual High School Model United Nations, organized by the U of A Political Science students.

For a number of years Robert was actively involved with the John Humphrey Centre for Human Rights, and was on the Board of Directors. He has long been interested in international affairs and globalization.

He has lived near the University for many years and currently lives with his wife Marion Brenner (B. Ed 1989) within walking distance of campus.
