Dr. Simone Pfleger - Department of Women’s and Gender Studies

Simone Pfleger is Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Alberta. Their publications include a monograph, Untimely Bodies, Untimely Aesthetics: Temporality, Relationality, and Intimacy in the Cinema of the Berlin School (2023), an edited volume, Transverse Disciplines: Queer-Feminist, Anti-racist, and Decolonial Approaches to the University (with Carrie Smith, 2022), and various articles and book chapters focusing on notions of temporality, affect, intimacy, and precarity in post-2000 German-language film and literature. Their current project is an autoethnographic study, in which they participate in local ultra-distance trail running events to then theorize the instability and fluidity of socio-culturally and historically contingent binary gender norms and work on policy changes for Alberta races.
