We are pleased to announce Fiona Kelly as dean of the Faculty of Law for a five-year term effective July 1, 2024.
Since February 2020, Fiona has been dean of the La Trobe University Law School (LLS) in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to her role as dean, Fiona was the school’s associate dean (Research and Industry Engagement) and was previously an associate professor at the University of British Columbia’s Peter A. Allard School of Law. She holds a BA and an LLB from the University of Melbourne and received her LLM and PhD from the University of British Columbia.
In her new role as dean of the Faculty of Law, Fiona will leverage a decade of administrative leadership and her extensive experience in delivering high-quality teaching and learning, research, Indigenous and EDI initiatives, and external engagement.
An internationally recognized scholar in family law and health law, Fiona has maintained an active research profile as dean. In addition to her own research, she has been instrumental in increasing LLS’ overall research prowess, growing the school’s research funding from $119,000 annually in 2019 to $1.12 million in 2023. Under her leadership, LLS also made impressive improvements in international rankings, rising from 300+ in the THE subject rankings in 2020 to the 151-175 band in 2023.
We want to thank the selection committee for their dedication to this process. We look forward to working with Fiona in her new role.
