Effective January 2, 2024, Shannon Scott is serving in the role of acting dean of the Faculty of Nursing through June 30, 2024, after returning from a six-month sabbatical. Greta Cummings is on an approved leave for the remaining six-month duration of her role as dean.
Shannon is well positioned to provide the faculty with exceptional leadership, having previous experience as acting vice dean from 2021 - 2023. She completed her PhD in nursing at the University of Alberta and a postdoctoral fellowship with the U of A Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Shannon held a Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translations in Child Health from 2013 - 2023, is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, a current member of the Women and Children's Health Research Institute and a distinguished researcher with the Stollery Science Lab. Shannon's research is an exceptional archetype of how working at the crossroads of disciplines can lead to ingenious solutions that have wide-reaching impact.
The Dean Selection Committee for the Faculty of Nursing is underway, and public town halls will be held in February. You are invited to attend and meet and hear from each of the candidates.
Please join me in thanking Shannon for stepping in to cover this leave.
