We are pleased to announce that Tim Tang will be joining the University of Alberta as the new Associate Vice-President, Student Experience, effective November 1, 2023.
Tim comes to the U of A from his current position as Associate Vice-President, Students, at MacEwan University, where he has revitalized and expanded the Student Affairs portfolio, led the development of a new Student Affairs action plan, championed the integration of key student-related functions (including enrolment and retention), fostered strategic partnerships and collaborations within the institution and externally, and expanded mental health and wellness initiatives. Prior to his role at MacEwan, Tim held senior roles at a number of other post-secondary institutions, including York University, Queen’s University, and our own University of Alberta, where he held the role of Assistant Registrar and Director, Admissions.
The AVP, Student Experience is a new role at the University of Alberta, reporting to the Deputy Provost (Students and Enrolment). In this role, Tim will lead strategic initiatives to facilitate engagement of all students, grow our institutional understanding of diverse student experiences, and implement the Student Experience Action Plan. The AVP will oversee a complex complement of student services that include the Career Centre, First Peoples’ House, Orientation and Transition Services, the Undergraduate Research Initiative and University Athletics. The AVP, Student Experience will work in close partnership as part of a newly launched dyad model with the Vice-Provost and Dean of Students to deliver on the University’s ambitious goals for student experience, support, and engagement.
