The University of Alberta banner is flying at half-mast from July 7-10, 2023 in remembrance of Danny Pulikkaseri, Graduate Student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

Danny Babu Pulikkaseril was born in Edmonton, AB, on July 29th, 1982, and was an active, energetic child, full of ambition to do new things. He attended Harry Ainley High School, and then studied at NAIT to be a telecom technician. He relished the technology and was eager to keep learning, so he transferred to the University of Alberta for his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.

After graduation, Danny worked in telecom, and had the opportunity to live in Mexico as an expat; he loved the experience of a new culture, making friends with Mexican engineers, and being adventurous with music and food. Keen to continue his global adventure, Danny moved to Malaysia to work for a US company manufacturing laser products.

His experience with manufacturing lasers ignited his interest in higher learning, and returning to Canada, he enrolled in a M.Sc. program with a top research group at the University of Alberta to design and fabricate micro-electronic mechanical devices, used in sensing applications in quantum physics and aerospace. He was elated to have his work contributing to major scientific efforts, including sending up one of his sensors into space on a NASA mission.

Danny Pulikkaseril was an unforgettable spirit - many of us knew him, and could not forget his infectious grin, his hearty laugh, his boisterous sense of humour. He touched everyone around him with his warm, affectionate personality, and his loss, tragic and unexpected, is keenly felt by everyone that knew him, and he will be remembered by his friends and family.
