The University of Alberta joins the world today in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The longest-reigning British monarch, Her Majesty has been a role model to generations as an exemplar of commitment to public service, duty and leadership. Throughout her decades-long reign, we have been inspired by Her Majesty’s steadfast commitment to developing the leaders of tomorrow.

The Queen’s belief in education, cross-cultural understanding and international co-operation and collaboration was reflected in the establishment of the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships program, which inspires and supports young global leaders to create lasting impacts at home and abroad.

Flags on our campuses have been lowered to half-staff in recognition of The Queen’s passing.

On behalf of the University of Alberta, I send condolences to the Royal Family, and to fellow citizens across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
