U of A’s United Way Campaign Kicks Off
Everyday Heroes come from everyday places: offices, classrooms, the coffee line in CCIS. What makes them heroic? They give their time and money to help others in need.
The U of A’s 2019 United Way campaign kicked off on October 9, celebrating the Everyday Heroes in every corner of our campuses — and calling on them to join the fight against poverty.
The U of A’s Orchesis dance group choreographed a performance for the occasion.
“Individuals in our community face unignorable hardships every day,” said choreographer Lyndsey Daniels. “Too often however, the individuals themselves are still ignored. When one human compassionately connects with another human, healing and growth can occur.” Her dance was inspired by these kinds of compassionate connections.
2019 campaign co-chairs Jennifer Tupper and Rob Munro—alongside United Way (Alberta Capital Region) President and CEO Rob Yager — shared their enthusiasm for the campaign with the crowd gathered in SUB.
Finally, the campaign kicked off with a backpack-packing competition in support of the United Way’s Tools for School program.
The 2019 campaign runs until October 25, 2019.
