Margaret-Ann Armour had a courageous spirit. When she joined the University of Alberta in 1979, she was the lone woman in her department. In the decades that followed she became an internationally renowned champion for diversity and an ambassador for women in the sciences everywhere.
She was a leader, a role model, and a consummate mentor to those around her. Her steadfast commitment to diversity in science was matched with a remarkable compassion and sincerity, and a deep appreciation for fun. We continue to celebrate and cherish her incredible service to the U of A, to women in STEM fields across Canada, and to the generations of young people she inspired.
