The University of Alberta banner is flying at half-mast in remembrance of Lorraine Frances Nichols, Assistant Director of Information Technology Services in the Faculty of Engineering.
Lorraine passed away suddenly on Sunday, 26 August 2018 while living life to its fullest on a hike in the mountains.
Born 14 October 1976 to Charles and Rose Gushue, raised in beautiful Newfoundland. Moved to Alberta in 1999, where she met and later married the love of her life, Ryan Nichols on 3 July 2004 in Edmonton. Lorraine was an avid chef, long distance runner, and travel enthusiast. She thrived in her many treasured roles of wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
A committed lifelong learner, Lorraine completed multiple educational achievements, including a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science, Certificate in Project Management and most recently a Masters of Business Administration.
Survived by spouse Ryan, parents Rose and Charles, sisters Michelle (Bryan), Teresa (Michael) and Christine (Vincent), and her nephew Jacob and niece Brooke.
We join her former colleagues in Engineering, central Advancement, the School of Business, and across campus in grieving this terrible loss.
Please feel free to donate to the MS Society in her memory, as Lorraine was an avid participant and supporter of the MS Bike Tour, or to another charity of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lorraine Nichols 2018.
