This week the University of Alberta is celebrating the 3MT champion, literary achievements, APEGA award winners and more! So, congrats to the following:
• Oluwakemi Amodu, MN Student, Faculty of Nursing - winner of the 2016 University of Alberta 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) and recipient of the People's Choice Award
• David Bennet and Karim Fouad, Professors, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine - recipients of a $2M grant from the National Institute of Health for their research on possible methods of addressing spinal cord injuries
• Timothy Caulfield, Professor & Research Director, Faculty of Law - recipient of the 2015 Science in Society General Book Award from the Canadian Science Writers' Association
• Roger Cheng, Professor & Chair, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering - recipient of the APEGA Centennial Leadership Award
• Aminah Robinson Fayek, Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering - recipient of this year's APEGA Excellence in Education Award
• Brian Jones, Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science - recipient of the Logan Medal, the highest award of the Geological Association of Canada, for sustained distinguished achievement in Canadian earth science
• Luke Melenberg, Student, Department of Marketing, Business Economics, and Law, Alberta School of Business - placed second in the Canada's Next Top Ad Exec (CNTAE) competition, ultimately landing a marketing internship with McDonald's Canada
• Randal Nickel, Sessional Lecturer, Augustana Campus - named Executive Director of Student Life at Augustana Campus
• Aly Parth, Pandas Soccer - earned a spot on the Canadian FISU Futsal team, and will represent Canada at the 2016 FISU world university women's futsal championship in Goiânia, Brazil
• Alberto Reyes, Assistant Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science - recipient of the 2016 J.R. Mackay Award by the Canadian Geomorphology Research Group for exceptional contributions to Quaternary geomorphology and palaeoclimatic change
• Annalise Schellenberg, Pandas Soccer - earned a spot on the Canadian FISU Futsal team, and will represent Canada at the 2016 FISU world university women's futsal championship in Goiânia, Brazil
• Malinda Smith, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts - recipient of the Community Contributor award from the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion
• Thomas Wharton, Associate Professor, Department of English and Film Studies, Faculty of Arts - nominated for the Howard O'Hagan Award for Short Story
• Jessica Yue, Student, Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - recipient of the Amgen Stewart Whitman CLC Young Investigator Award
