Dr. Margaret Mackey's recent book, One Child Reading: My Auto-Bibliography (University of Alberta Press, 2016), has been declared the Scholarly and Academic Book of the Year by the Book Publishers Association of Alberta. The book explores the multifaceted processes through which the author learned to be a reader as a child in St. John's, Newfoundland, in the 1950s, and was chosen for the award from a shortlist of four titles. The jury described it as "profound, tremendously innovative, wholly original and experimental, and impressive on all levels." The book "seamlessly weaves together multiple and diverse theories and methods." Dr. Mackey, SLIS Professor Emerita, received the award at the BPAA gala on September 15, 2017.
