Day in the Life of Coby Kwasney

30 September 2019

Coby Kwasney has been working at the School of Dentistry for 24 years! Starting as an assistant in the clinic, then as a dual assistant and transitioning to a patient services clerk, Coby has enjoyed the experiences and patients she's met. Take a few minutes to find out what some of her favourite highlights of the job are!

What is one of your proudest moments at work?

One of my proudest moments has been the work that I have done with the school visit program. For at least 15 years I worked closely with the Dental Assistants at Alberta Health Services to plan and book treatment for children with the school program. It has been very rewarding work for both the children who needed the treatment and for the students who learned compassion and philanthropy.

Tell us something we don't know about you?

I love to travel, being of Dutch descent I travel home to the Netherlands to visit my 11 aunts and uncles and 36 cousins who reside there.

If you weren't doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

If I wasn't working here I would have loved to have been a writer. I took a creative writing course here at the University of Alberta many years ago. Just too busy reading to write.

What's the best advice somebody has ever given you?

The best advice I have ever been given is to live for today. Enjoy the moment, life is short… eat the cake first.

Favourite quote, movie or book?

I love a good book, especially murder mysteries… no particular one author.
