Jason Silverman (at left) joins guest Ben Gold and podcast co-creators, Peter Lu and Jenn Lee for an in-studio (aka conference hotel room) recording session.

Who doesn’t want to listen to Bowel Sounds? The Department of Pediatrics' own Jason Silverman joined forces with his fellow NASPGHAN* technology committee colleagues to create an educational and accessible podcast for healthcare professionals who look after children that may have gastrointestinal conditions. The new monthly podcast launched in October 2019 and already has over 5,000 listens across six continents.

Each 30-minute episode is focused on a different clinical topic, but Silverman says the podcasts are conversational and offer even more for listeners. “We’ve tried to glean a little bit of background from each of the people we interview,” he says, pointing to one guest's offering of h. pylori clinical pearls combined with a backstory about his time as a DJ. In another episode, the guest includes her experiences as a woman navigating academic medicine.
