NMHI Graduate Studentships
The Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI) is pleased to offer several awards for students registered in the Neuroscience Graduate Program.
Richard B. Stein Neuroscience Graduate Studentship
This award honors the memory of Dr. Richard B. Stein. Preference given to students conducting research in the area of neuroscience. Value: $20,000 for one year.
Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute Studentship
This award supports neuroscience or mental health research. Value: $12,000 for one year
Spinal Muscular Atrophy Studentship
This award supports research into spinal muscular atrophy. Value: $10,000 for one year, 2 studentships
Margaret Cook Studentship
This award supports medical research with a preference given to research focused on Alzheimer’s disease. Value: $10,000 for one year
Johnston Family Studentship
This award is in memory of Shirley and Lloyd Johnston and supports Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease research. Value: $2500 for one year
Peripheral Nerve Studentship
This award supports research into peripheral nerves. Value: $2000 for one year
Eligibility for awards:
Applicants must be enrolled in the NMHI graduate program. An award can be held with others as long as the student's funding amount does not exceed $28,000/year.

- Stipend/scholarship payment from supervisor’s research grant
- External scholarships, including, but not limited to SSHRC/NSERC/CIHR/AIHS/AITF/AGES charitable organizations.
- Internal scholarships over $2000/year, including university competitions such as the FGSR Graduate Awards Competition
- GTA and GRA income over $2000/year
