Krysta Robinson

Master of Arts, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation

Working for the City of Edmonton, Krysta pursued recreation and leisure studies courses as professional development. The master's program overlapped with her previous education and her chosen professional field so she decided to finish the remaining courses and research to complete the degree, furthering her career.

Krysta worked full time in a newly promoted role, bought a house and invested herself into her research capstone, Dungeons and Dragons and digital communities. She was so interested in her research that she went beyond interviewing three participants, tripling to nine and gathering much more data than was necessary, providing a wider breadth of lived experience from those participants.

Krysta's advice for prospective students:
"Choose a topic that inspires you to work towards it. Something you could sit down and read or listen to people talk about for several hours a day. If there isn't enough research on a topic but you are interested in it, do it. Find a supervisor who is thrilled to support a creative research topic."

Krysta is working for the City of Edmonton as a river valley parks liaison, specifically working on animating the new Northeast River Valley Park.
