World Space Week has grown into the largest public space event on planet Earth. This year in recognition of this event, the University of Alberta is hosting 'An Afternoon With Chirs Hadfield' at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium from 2:00 - 3:30pm. Full details and tickets can be found at http://uab.ca/hadfield.
Commander Chris Hadfield, Engineer, former RCAF fighter pilot, is most well known for being the accessible Commander of the ISS, hugely increasing the profile of Canada in space. A man of firsts, he flew the first CF-18 intercept of a Soviet "Bear" aircraft (Tu-95), completing the first military flight of F/A-18 enhanced performance engines, piloting the first flight test of the National Aerospace Plane external burning hydrogen propulsion engine, flew as the first Canadian mission specialist (STS-74), was the first Canadian to operate the Canadarm in orbit, was the first (and only) Canadian to board Mir, and became the first Canadian to command a spaceship as Commander of the ISS.
