Join us before the show for a talk from one of our department members about the history, the myth, the movie, and the enduring legacy of Ancient Greece! All events are free and open to the public.

	Medea Sunday, March 13 Maria Callas in her only film role takes on the title character of Medea, a woman scorned who will stop at nothing to exact her revenge. Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1969 adaptation of Euripides' tragedy. In Italian with English subtitles.

	The 300 Sunday, March 20 An adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel retelling the heroic last stand of the 300 Spartans at Battle of Thermopylae.

	Black Orpheus Sunday, April 3 Marcel Camus' retelling (1959) of the myth of Orpheus (Breno Me!o) and Eurydice (Marpessa Dawn), set in Rio de Janeiro during Carnival. In Portuguese with English subtitles.

	Phaedra Sunday, April 10 Jules Dassin (1962) updates Euripides' story of Phaedra's love for her stepson Hippolytus. Set on the Greek island of Hydra, the wife of a Greek shipping tycoon (Melina Mercouri) falls in love with her stepson (Anthony ).

	Trojan Women Sunday, April 17 Michael Cacoyannis's faithful adaptation (1971) of Euripides' masterpiece, Trojan Women, follows the fate of the women and children of Troy in the immediate aftermath of the fall of Troy. Starring Katherine Hepburn (Hecuba), Vanessa Redgrave (Andromache), Genevieve Bujold (Cassandra) and Irene Papas (Helen of Troy).
