Aronsen

We are saddened by the news that our friend and colleague Professor Emeritus, Larry Aronsen, passed away on January 25 at the UBC Hospice in Vancouver at the age of 67. Larry joined the Department of History (as it was then known) in 1987, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2002. His publications include four books, including American National Security and Economic Relations with Canada, 1945-1954 (Praeger, 1997) and City of Love and Revolution: Vancouver in the Sixties (New Star 2010). For many years he taught a highly popular course on the Cold War, and students were amused by his wry humour and apparent metamorphosis from Maoist youth to Republican Right during his career. Larry was a sincere and kind man who never refused invitations to serve on graduate committees and provided gentle and helpful advice at all times to his colleagues and students. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Elizabeth Dean.
