2014 Cécile E. Mactaggart Award for Narrative Writing

The adjudication committee stated that her story: "A Hallowe'en Meditation" is a beautiful eulogy to the writer's family, and to the larger community of those oppressed. The piece traverses time, evocatively reminding us of the tenuous nature of 'progress,' particularly when the writer recounts the usefulness of learning how to box in an environment of constant danger. And yet the story is nicely balanced with memories of laughter, art, music and love."

The Award comes with a travel grant, which nicely combines with her sabbatical leave this summer.
