Despite the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls being completed in 2019, work to provide advice and recommendations is only beginning now. While advocates applaud the recent appointment of Jennifer Rattray as the Ministerial Special Representative for this work, many are reminded of the human cost of bureaucratic delay. Protestors currently block the reopening of Prairie Green Landfill north of Winnipeg. While police believe the remains of two murdered Indigenous women rest in the area, they have also declined to search, citing feasibility. Meanwhile, experts claim that a search is possible and that time is of the essence.

In this Lunch & Learn, Willow White (Métis Nation of Alberta) will discuss the history of persistent colonial stereotypes about Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited, the current state of MMIWG2S in Canada and possible pathways forward.
