The phrase ‘cut and paste’ is known for rearranging a document instantly or for copying someone else’s work. Lucas Crawford (‘12 PhD) explores the phrase in relation to collage artwork by drawing on the work of trans collage artists. Collage offers inventive and even humorous alternatives to mainstream ideas about being transgender.

Join Lucas Crawford to learn how the art of collage establishes trans style as a crucial route to trans survival, and how it has punctuated his (trans) life.

SPEAKER:

Lucas Crawford completed his PhD in English and Film Studies at the University of Alberta in 2012 and returned as an associate professor at the U of A's Augustana Campus in July 2021. In 2020, Lucas was awarded the biannual Arcus Foundation Places Prize from UC-Berkeley in recognition of his work about gender and space.
