Churchill Cambridge Scholarship

$64,000/year for PhD studies at Cambridge University


The Churchill Cambridge Scholarship, worth $64,000/yr, is awarded to a graduate of the University of Alberta entering PhD studies at Cambridge University. Students now completing a BSc or MSc degree in Engineering are eligible to apply. Graduates with one or two years of experience will also be considered. The successful applicant will enter Churchill College at Cambridge University, a college that houses a concentration of engineering and science graduate students. The Churchill Cambridge Scholarship is normally renewed for a second and third year of study, subject to suitable progress.

Cambridge University offers a broad range of research areas and facilities in engineering. The main Cambridge University Engineering Department has six research divisions:

  • Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Acoustics, Turbo machinery
  • Electrical engineering
  • Mechanics and materials
  • Geotechnical and Structures
  • Manufacturing and management
  • Information engineering (control, communications and computing)
  • And a separate Chemical Engineering Department

Application Deadline: October 17, 2024

The letter of application should include your reasons for wishing to study at Cambridge and a brief description of your area of interest (two page maximum), a University of Alberta transcript, and the names of two references, preferably at the University of Alberta. The Committee is looking for candidates who will excel at Cambridge University and project a positive image as an ambassador for Alberta. You may also attach a formal resume to your letter. Applicants are also encouraged to apply for an NSERC graduate award, IODE War Memorial Scholarship, or other scholarships to supplement this scholarship.

This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the Sir Winston Churchill Society of Edmonton and supported by the Churchill Scholarships Foundation of Alberta.
