Answer Key

1 Across: Gold

On Fridays, the U of A community is encouraged to wear GREEN+GOLD to show their university pride. Check out The Quad article, In photos: We are GREEN+GOLD, and hear from fellow staff, as well as some alumni and students, about what GREEN+GOLD means to them.

4 Across: SRIF

The purpose of the Strategic Research Initiatives Fund — or SRIF — is to advance institutional research goals, enable researchers and the institution to engage with diverse external partners and communities and more. Read more about SRIF from the October 2024 Quad announcement.

5 Across: Enrolment

The University of Alberta’s 10-year enrolment plan, which is called the Integrated Enrolment Growth Plan or IEGP, is vital to the university’s vision for the next decade. Read more about the university’s enrolment plan.

9 Across: Becoming

Featuring 19 artworks by 19 artists, this University of Alberta Museums Art Collection, titled On Becoming: New Acquisitions, highlights recent acquisitions and the changing directions of collecting art. View some photos of the exhibit here.

11 Across: Together

In October 2024, the university launched Forward Together: The University of Alberta People Strategy 2024-34, which represents the university’s commitment to its people and reflects the shared aspiration of the hundreds of individuals who contributed their ideas and suggestions. 12 Across: Impact

The U of A ranked sixth in the world for sustainability in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings released in June. Read the rankings.

13 Across: Affirmed

The primary-affirmed name functionality, which launched over the summer, allows faculty, staff and students the ability to use and identify themselves by their chosen name. Read more about this tool.

14 Across: CASIP

CASIP is the acronym for the Continuous Administrative Service Improvement Program led by the University Initiatives Office that delivers streamlined improvements in finance, research administration, information management and reporting, and human resources administrative processes, as well as in the underlying technologies that support these areas. 15 Across: LMS

This year, the University of Alberta switched to Canvas, a learning management system or LMS, for short. Read more about the U of A's new LMS, Canvas.

16 Across: Podcast

SSH: The Podcast is a new platform celebrating the work of researchers from diverse areas across the social sciences and humanities, launched in August 2024. Listen to a podcast episode.

2 Down: Luminaria

After a year-long hiatus, the cherished winter tradition, Luminaria, held at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden, relaunched in December 2024. Read the top five reasons to attend Luminaria.

There is still time to experience Luminara this year: Book your tickets for Dec. 20-22 or 27-29 now. Note, tickets must be purchased in advance, and demand is expected to be high, so don’t wait too long to reserve your spot.

3 Down: Century

The Department of Medicine celebrated a century of excellence honouring the University of Alberta’s legacy of medical advancement, education and compassionate care. See photos of the event. 

6 Down: Rehab Med

The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (or Rehab Med, for short) is the U of A faculty that began offering master's programs at Augustana Campus as of fall 2024. Read more about these new programs.

7 Down: Youth

The Black Youth for Social Innovation (BYSI) Program's first cohort of students participated in mentorship and internship opportunities during the summer of 2024. Learn more about the BYSI program. 

8 Down: Shana

In March 2024, Provost Verna Yiu hosted a Verna’s Vlog with Shana Dion, assistant dean of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Students, to discuss First Peoples-led initiatives and supports to help U of A students thrive and succeed. Read — and watch — to learn more.
