Verna’s Vlog is a series in which I sit down with some of the incredible people who are a part of the U of A community to share their stories and learn more about what they do.

This episode of Verna’s Vlog is part one of a conversation with the U of A’s three college deans and vice-provosts: Brenda Hemmelgarn, Health Sciences; Matina Kalcounis-Rueppell, Natural and Applied Sciences; and Marvin Washington, Social Sciences and Humanities.

The colleges bring together expertise from across our faculties, harnessing collective strengths to advance discovery and the application of research. They also educate and prepare our students to be the scholars, leaders and problem solvers of tomorrow.

In 2023, the Marshall Review helped inform the ongoing development of the structure for the colleges, focusing on three main areas:

  1. Promoting interdisciplinarity in programs and research.
  2. Improving service delivery and economies of scale.
  3. Enhancing communication about the colleges' impact and opportunities.

Learn more about the colleges and the work they are accomplishing together in part one of this two-part series.
