Each year, the university hosts the Celebration of Service event to recognize faculty and staff honorees who have attained service milestones of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service within the calendar year. As part of the celebration, we also recognize award winners who are nominated by their peers for outstanding contributions to the workplace.

RaeAnne Barkhouse (Medicine)
RaeAnne Barkhouse is a cornerstone of the Department of Medicine. Her exceptional organizational skills and proactive engagement were pivotal during faculty recruitment and restructuring. RaeAnne’s commitment to fostering a collaborative culture has been crucial in supporting faculty and students, particularly during challenging times.
Ariane Montesinos Maclean (Education)
Ariane Montesinos Maclean has demonstrated exceptional dedication in her role at Education Clinical Services. Her adaptability during the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing efforts to improve clinic operations have made her a valued team member. Ariane’s warmth and care for students and staff foster a supportive and safe environment.
Ryan Lewis (Chemistry)
Ryan Lewis’s commitment to sustainability and research support within the Chemistry Department has made him an invaluable asset. His proactive efforts to manage essential equipment and supplies, including liquid nitrogen and dry ice for critical research, ensure the department runs smoothly while reducing waste and costs. His enthusiasm and dedication have made him an essential part of the team.
Mike Barteski (Chemistry)
Mike Barteski, a key leader within the Chemistry Research Stores, has demonstrated incredible dedication, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he coordinated the production and distribution of hand sanitizer for the Edmonton community. His innovative problem-solving and proactive approach to safety and sustainability have made the Chemistry Department a better place for students and researchers alike.

Mike Pugsley (Informations Services and Technology)
Celebrated for his infectious enthusiasm, Mike Pugsley has significantly impacted Information Services and Technology. Mike’s leadership inspires colleagues, ensuring that creativity and collaboration remain at the heart of his work.
Angie Mandeville and Lindsay Johnston (Libraries and Museums)
Lindsay and Angie’s dynamic leadership of the University of Alberta Libraries has created a more inclusive and engaged environment for both students and staff. Their efforts to revitalize the Student Library Advisory Committee and their passion for fostering a welcoming atmosphere have been integral to enhancing the student library experience.
Torrey Dance (Engineering)
Torrey Dance’s leadership in the Faculty of Engineering has been a driving force in the expansion of experiential learning opportunities. By fostering a collaborative environment and implementing strategies for growth, Torrey has enhanced the support available to student project teams and reshaped professional education within the faculty.

Alina R. (Ophthalmology and Visual Science)
A standout lab technician, Alina has gone above and beyond to support students in the lab. Known for her dedication to training and willingness to help troubleshoot experiments, she fosters independence while promoting critical thinking. Tabitha Nguyen (Medical Microbiology and Immunology)
As a key administrator, Tabitha Nguyen excels in ensuring smooth operations while providing personalized support to students. Excellence in Leadership Award
Don Mason (English Language School)
For more than a decade, Don Mason has been a central figure in the English Language School, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when he stepped in as director. His leadership has enhanced the school’s culture, empowering staff and students to contribute their strengths. Don’s openness to new ideas, empathetic approach and commitment to mentorship have left a lasting impact on both colleagues and students.
Anthony Singhal (Psychology Science)
As chair of the Department of Psychology, Anthony Singhal has steered the department through challenging times, including navigating the pandemic and a major restructuring with positivity, grace and humility. His commitment to building a supportive community across two colleges and faculties, along with his proactive approach, highlights his unwavering dedication to both his team and the university.
