What is your first U of A memory?
Hearing the stories of all my aunts who attended the university - all in education (my Dad had five sisters and all four of them were teachers).
What’s something your coworkers don’t know about you?
I’d like to believe there are many things since I do try to maintain a certain mystique! One example might be that I was lucky enough to travel to South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Ukraine, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, the US and the UK when I worked for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
What’s your favourite distraction?
Trail running. The focus it requires is a great way to de-stress and I love being outdoors in Edmonton’s beautiful river valley. I also enjoy races when I get the chance — it sparks my competitive spirit!
If you were enrolling in one course, program or degree right now, what would it be?
Explorations of the Canadian North. In my previous position, I was lucky enough to visit Inuit partners in Inuvik and it sparked my interest in exploring more of Inuit Nunangat.
You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?
My Dad. He was a great storyteller and also gave great advice. I’d love to tell him more about my experiences at the university so far.
If you could see any live performance tomorrow, what would it be?
Nina Simone — an amazing songbook and a legendary performer.
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Not having a clear path makes way for new adventures.
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
Libraries! Huge fan and still nursing my childhood ambitions of being a librarian.
What three words describe your U of A experience?
Challenging, interesting, rewarding.
Do you have any upcoming projects or initiatives you are looking forward to at work?
Expanding the Safeguarding Research Office support options available to researchers and meeting many more of them in person at upcoming events. We love getting out on campus and making folks more aware of the support we offer. Folks should also check out our new Research Security Review newsletter (CCID required) and new products on our SRO portal (CCID required). We’ve made it easy to register for required research security training or to book a consultation or briefing.
