I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ian Winship as Associate Vice-President (Research Development and Services) for a three-year term, beginning on August 28, 2023.
A proud U of A alumnus, Dr. Winship is a neuroscientist and a professor in the Department of Psychiatry, where he has worked since 2007; from 2010 to 2017 he was an Alberta Innovates Health Solutions (AIHS) Scholar. Over the past decade, Dr. Winship has worked extensively to strengthen research and education in neuroscience and mental health. He brings a vast array of leadership experience, including positions in the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI), where he served as the Deputy Director, and in the Neurochemical Research Unit (NRU) in the Department of Psychiatry, where he has been the Director since 2014.
In his new role as the Associate Vice-President (Research Development and Services), Dr. Winship will lead a team that offers administrative services to support researchers and help increase sponsored research funding success. He will provide leadership and oversight to Research Administrative Services (including CFI) and to researcher development programs and resources to strengthen pathways for success across the research life cycle. He will also champion the promotion of Indigenous initiatives in research (in collaboration with the Vice-Provost, Indigenous Programming and Research) and equity, diversity and inclusion (in collaboration with the Vice Provost, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion).
Dr. Winship will also oversee research recognition awards and internal funding programs, and will work with the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) on the Canada Research Chairs program.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Winship on his appointment.
Sincerely,
Dr. Aminah Robinson Fayek
Vice-President (Research and Innovation)
