J’ai le plaisir d’annoncer la nomination du Dr Jason Carey aux postes de doyen de la Faculté
Saint-Jean et de Chef de la Direction du Campus Saint-Jean pour un mandat de cinq ans, à compter du 1 er juillet 2022.
Le Dr Carey est présentement professeur et vice-doyen à la Faculté de génie, ainsi que chaire d’enseignement Vargo. Il possède un doctorat en génie mécanique de l’Université d’Ottawa, et, depuis qu’il a rejoint l’Université de l’Alberta en 2004, a contribué à de nombreux succès facultaires en matière d’innovation programmatique, de partenariats industriels et de développements liés à la recherche. Ses intérêts de recherche dans les domaines de la pédagogie du génie, de la biomécanique et des matériaux de pointe suivent une approche multidisciplinaire qui s’aligne parfaitement sur celle du Campus Saint-Jean.
En rejoignant le Campus Saint-Jean, le Dr Carey se joint à une faculté qui joue un rôle essentiel dans l’éducation en langue française au Canada, et qui constitue un pilier de la communauté francophone dynamique d’Edmonton. La langue maternelle du Dr Carey est le français, et il parle couramment les deux langues officielles. En tant qu’ancien étudiant du programme bilingue de génie mécanique et vice-président académique de l’Association des étudiant.e.s diplômés.es (GSAÉD) de l’Université d’Ottawa, il est profondément conscient de l’importance de l’éducation en langue française au sein d’une communauté diverse.
Du fait de sa carrière approfondie dans la recherche, l’enseignement et le leadership
académique, le Dr Carey comprend bien les opportunités et les défis à venir. En tant que
doyen, il fera office de porte-parole résolu pour le Campus Saint-Jean et la U of A, ainsi que
pour ses étudiants, ses parties prenantes, et les membres de la communauté.
Le Dr Carey succède au Dr Pierre-Yves Mocquais, qui terminera son deuxième mandat en tant que doyen du Campus Saint-Jean le 30 juin 2022 et partira en congé administratif. Je souhaite remercier le Dr Mocquais pour son leadership et son dévouement envers le Campus Saint-Jean et l’institution durant son mandat. Il a établi une solide fondation pour l’éducation postsecondaire en français à Edmonton et en Alberta, que le Dr Carey va pouvoir continuer à développer.
Enfin, je souhaite remercier le comité de sélection du doyen pour son travail acharné et ses
recommandations sur cette importante décision pour le futur du Campus Saint-Jean.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jason Carey as Dean of Faculté Saint-Jean and Executive Officer of Campus Saint-Jean for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2022.
Dr. Carey is currently a Professor and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, as well as a Vargo Teaching Chair. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Ottawa, and since joining the University of Alberta in 2004, he has contributed to successes in programmatic innovation, industry partnerships and research developments in the faculty. His research interests in engineering pedagogy, biomechanics, and advanced materials take a multidisciplinary approach that is well-aligned with Campus Saint-Jean.
In joining Campus Saint-Jean, Dr. Carey joins a faculty that plays a vital role in French-language education in Canada, and which stands as a pillar of Edmonton’s vibrant Francophone community. Dr. Carey’s first language is French, and he is fluent in both official languages. As a former student of the bilingual mechanical engineering program and academic vice-president of the Graduate Student Association (GSAÉD) at the University of Ottawa, he holds a deep appreciation for French-language education within a diverse community.
Stemming from his extensive career in research, teaching, and academic leadership, Dr. Carey brings a well-articulated awareness of the opportunities and challenges ahead. As Dean, he will be a steadfast advocate for Campus Saint-Jean and the U of A, and for its students, stakeholders, and community members.
Dr. Carey is succeeding Dr. Pierre-Yves Mocquais, who will complete his second term as Dean of Campus Saint-Jean on June 30, 2022 and begin an administrative leave. I would like to thank Dr. Mocquais for his leadership and dedication to Campus Saint-Jean and the institution during his tenure. He has established a strong foundation for French-language post-secondary education in Edmonton and Alberta from which Dr. Carey can continue to build.
Lastly, I want to thank the Dean Selection Committee for their hard work and recommendations on this important decision for the future of Campus Saint-Jean.
