What is your first U of A memory?
Coming to the Butterdome to climb recreationally in 2002.
What is something your coworkers do not know about you?
Most may not know that I am a professionally trained baker.
What is your favorite distraction?
Anything 1980s. I.e., movies, music, pop culture.
If you were enrolling in one course, program or degree right now, what would it be?
Photography, filming and editing courses.
What is a weird pet peeve you have?
Small talk in public washrooms.
You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?
John Candy. He has always bestowed this extremely friendly, extraverted and jovial personality that I grew up absorbing on the big screen.
If you could see any live performance tomorrow, what would it be?
Primus (an American funk metal band).
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Believe it or not, you are going to stop skateboarding for more than 20 years then pick it up again at age 50.
What is one thing you cannot live without?
My wife, Joanna.
What three words describe your U of A experience?
Pride, teamwork, passion.

Lloyd King has been part of the Edmonton climbing community since 1999 and has proudly worked for the University of Alberta at the Climbing Centre since 2003. He is the founding organizer of the annual Reel Rock Climbing Film Festival in Edmonton and is a member of the Climbing Instructors Committee that generates commercial climbing gym industry standards across Canada. He is also an examiner for the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides certifying junior professional climbing gym instructors.
