Have you met Lorraine, Support Services Coordinator for the Department of Ancillary Services? Spend the next few minutes getting to know her a little better.
Where is your favorite place on campus?
My favourite places are the water features on campus. I like to go there when I’m out and about on campus and have a peaceful moment.
Tablet or paper?
Tablet. Even though I am old school around here, I keep everything on my tablet.
Name one thing you’ve brought to work from home.
Pictures of my children. I love having them around.
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
Food of course! It’s one of my passions. I love checking out different places.
If you won airfare to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would love to go to Australia and New Zealand.
You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?
My dad. I just lost him last year so I’d love to spend more time with him. My second one is a bit odd: Elvis Presley. He was one of my heroes when I was growing up. I came *this* close to going to his show in Vegas.
If you could switch jobs with someone else on campus for a week, what would you do?
I’d switch with one of the guys in utilities. They know every nook and cranny of this campus. I know a lot, but they know way more than me. It would be cool to be able to do what they do — to go find all the little hidden rooms and gems and stuff.
What does “uplifting the whole people” mean to you?
“The whole people” is more the part that I focus on. Everyone should have a chance to come to this university, regardless of race, colour, creed — anything. The inclusivity of that, “the whole people,” really resonates with me. And of course the “uplifting” is just the education and growth for every student or faculty or staff that comes on campus.
If you could solve any problem in the world, what would it be?
Food security. We grow enough food in this world to more than feed everyone, if only we had the ability to do that. I think that would be amazing. It would just help us health-wise, growth-wise… it would help everyone.
What 3 words best describe your U of A experience?
Exciting. Educational. Pride.
