This week, the University of Alberta is celebrating recipients of the annual U of A Awards for Teaching Excellence, Bears and Pandas who will represent Canada this summer, and more! So, congrats to the following:
• Ryley Barnes, Bears Volleyball — named to the Canadian Men’s Senior National B Team
• Rhonda Bell, Professor, Department of Agricultural Food and Nutritional Science, Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences — received the Canadian Nutrition Society’s Earle Willard McHenry Award for major influence on education, leadership, research and public awareness in the field of nutrition
• Clover Bench, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Food and Nutritional Science, Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences — received a Provost’s Award for Early Achievement of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Barbara Billingsley, Professor, Faculty of Law — received a Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Francesca Bombini, third year student, Department of Human Ecology, Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences — won a $1000 scholarship from Telio (one of North America’s leading fabric producers) as part of its Canada Breakthrough Designers Awards to particular schools
• Robert Burrell, Professor, CRC in Nanostructured Biomaterials and Chair of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering — received the new Governor General’s Innovation Award for his work on developing Acticoat, the first burn dressing to simultaneously kill bacteria and decrease inflammation
• Anastasia L. Elias, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering– received a Teaching Unit Award at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Janet A. W. Elliott, Professor and CRC in Thermodynamics, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering — received a Teaching Unit Award at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Fraser Forbes, Professor, Faculty of Engineering — appointed as the new Dean of Engineering
• Heather Kanuka, Professor, Department of Educational Policy Studies, Faculty of Education — recipient of the 2016 Research and Scholarship Award from the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education
• Denise Larsen, Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Education — received an Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Todd Lowary, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science — received a 2016 J Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research
• Anna Lund, Postdoctoral fellow, Faculty of Law — honoured with a Distinguished Service Award by the Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC)
• Lu-Anne McFarlane, Clinical Practicum Coordinator, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine — received an Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Jessie Niles, Pandas Volleyball — named to the Canadian Women’s Senior National Team
• Mark Nuttall, Henry Marshall Tory Professor, Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts — received a 2016 J Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research
• Marie Nychka, Faculty of Arts — received the William Hardy Alexander Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Anna Oswald, Associate Professor, Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry — received a Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Brendan Pass, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Faculty of Science — received a Provost’s Award for Early Achievement of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Peter Sankoff, Professor, Faculty of Law — received the Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
• Kisha Supernant, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts — received a Provost’s Award for Early Achievement of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Brett Walsh, Bears Volleyball — named to the Canadian Men’s Senior National B Team
• Mariah Walsh, Pandas Volleyball — named to the Canadian Women’s Senior National Team
• Fred West, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science — received a Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the 2016 University of Alberta Awards for Teaching Excellence
• Community Service-Learning (CSL), Augustana Campus — finalist at the Alberta Emerald Foundation Award for achieving environmental excellence across Alberta
• Faculty of Law — received $100,000 from Moody Gartner Tax Law to support their tax moot team and for student research assistantships
