SSC Appoints Research Director in MPS Program

SSC Appoints Research Director in MPS Program St. Stephen’s College is excited to share news that Dr. Nicholas Jacobs joined the faculty earlier this year in a new role as Research Director and Professor of Spiritually-Integrated Psychotherapy in the Department of Psychotherapy and Spirituality. Nicholas joins Dr. Lorraine Smith-MacDonald, Marie Muggeridge, and Danielle Charron in giving leadership to the MPS, MPS-AT, and Graduate Certificate programs.

Nicholas is a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, having completed his training in spiritually-integrated psychotherapy and then going on to practice individual and group therapy in contexts of municipal government, non-profit, and private practice. After completing his studies at St. Stephen’s, Nicholas went on to complete a PhD at the University of Alberta with research interests in phenomenology, existentialism, psychoanalysis, analytical psychology, and curriculum studies. Nicholas’ research area involves the phenomenon of mortality, specifically in how the experience of mortality relates to the nature of creativity and becoming from an analytical psychology perspective. In addition to his work at St. Stephen’s, Nicholas is also a sessional instructor at MacEwan University and teaches courses in Abnormal Psychology, Human Sexuality, Psychological Interviewing, and the Psychology of Mortality.

As Research Director, Nicholas will oversee all matters related to student research and evaluation in the Department of Psychotherapy and Spirituality (inclusive of students in both the Counselling and Art Therapy streams). Initially, he will work primarily with thesis students, with some support given to capstone students as well.

Welcome (back) to the College, Nick! We are excited to work with you!
