The 97th Convocation of St. Stephen's College: Fall 2021
On November 1, 2021, please join Co-Chancellors Colm and Lynda O’Carroll, together with Principal and Dean Fred Tappenden, for the 97th Annual Convocation of St. Stephen’s College.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s convocation ceremony will be held virtually. The ceremony itself will stream on the College’s website and YouTube channel starting at 12:00pm. The convocation address—titled, “Spiritual Originality in Care”—will be delivered by Omar Yaqub, one of this year’s recipients of the Doctor of Sacred Letters (honoris causa).
As is our tradition, Convocation is also a time to honour individuals with Honorary Degrees and Awards. This year, St. Stephen’s is awarding two honorary degrees and one award.
Online Grad Profiles
While viewing the ceremony, we invite you also to peruse the 2021 Graduate Profiles section of the Convocation webpage. Here you can read about and get to know many of the individuals graduating this Fall, as well as those who graduated earlier this Spring.
Live Zoom Event for Graduates:
Also on November 1, later in the afternoon, the College will host a live Zoom gathering at 4:00pm for this year’s graduates together with the Co-Chancellors, Principal and Dean, Chair of the Board of Governors, Chair of Academic Senate, and Faculty. Details of this live gathering will be sent directly to the graduates.
Want to Take a Picture in your Grad Gown?
For the month of November, graduates are invited along with their loved ones to come to the College, put on their grad gown and hood, and take pictures in the Library. Graduates are able to come to the College any Tuesday (during regular business hours), or by appointment on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (also during business hours). Graduates must bring their own camera. All who come to campus are required to comply with the Campus Health and Safety Measures as set out by St. Stephen’s College.
High Level Bridge Lit in St. Stephen’s Colours
Finally, as part of our celebration of this year’s graduates, we have arranged with the City of Edmonton that the High Level Bridge (located just a few blocks from the College) will be illuminated on Friday, November 5 with the colours of St. Stephen’s College (Purple, Green, and Gold). For those who are in Edmonton, we encourage you to take a drive that evening, enjoy the lights, and bask in the glow of the successes of our graduating students.
All of us at the College are disappointed that we cannot gather together in person for the 97th Annual Convocation. We feel this disappointment, as we know many of you feel it too, and we look forward to when we can again gather at the College to celebrate our students and their accomplishments.
Further details regarding the 97th Annual Convocation can be found on our Convocation Ceremony webpage.
