Student Recruitment Plans for the BYSI Program - Summer 2025
The University of Alberta's Black Youth for Social Innovation (BYSI) Program is recruiting its second cohort for four-month paid research positions in the Summer of 2025. This program offers three recruitment streams, providing students the opportunity to engage in research independently, with faculty guidance, or with external employers. Students are encouraged to apply to multiple streams to maximize their chances of securing a position that aligns with their academic and career goals.
1. Independent Student Researcher Stream
Overview: This stream, part of the University of Alberta's Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI), is designed for students with their own specific research project and a secured faculty supervisor. It offers students full ownership of their research with faculty mentorship. It is ideal for those interested in independent research.
2. Research Assistant Stream
Overview: This stream offers full-time, paid Research Assistant positions, funded by faculty research grants. Students gain hands-on experience supporting faculty-led projects, without needing to propose their own research. It is ideal for students seeking practical academic research experience.
3. Internship Stream
Overview: This stream provides hands-on experience with external organizations in the private, non-profit, or public sectors. Students engage in tasks such as research assistance, policy analysis, and organizational development. It is ideal for students seeking to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings and explore research careers beyond academia.
