External Employer Recruitment for the BYSI Program - Summer 2025
The University of Alberta’s Black Youth for Social Innovation (BYSI) Program invites external employers to join our Summer 2025 initiative. This program aims to address the mentorship and internship gap for Black students in the Social Sciences and Humanities. We are seeking external employers to contribute to the program by providing 4-month, paid internship placements.
Overview: Partner with us to provide Black undergraduate students with real-world experience through internships. This stream offers students the opportunity to gain practical skills in a professional setting and boosts your organization’s capacity over the summer months.
Eligibility: BYSI is open to all external employers who can offer diverse internship experiences and are committed to supporting student growth and development. We especially welcome employers whose missions align with our own, which is “We empower Black youth to lead a pluralistic society.” We encourage employers to apply for salary matching through programs like Canada Summer Jobs.
Responsibilities: Fund, design, and manage internship positions that offer students meaningful exposure to tasks and projects relevant to your organization. Provide hands-on experience in areas such as (but not limited to) organizational development, research, policy analysis, and project management. Mentor interns by guiding them in developing both technical and soft skills and foster their career growth through networking opportunities and constructive feedback.
