On Oct. 23, 2024, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities welcomed members from the Coalition for a Better Future to the University of Alberta as part of their Campus Tour series.
Students, faculty and staff gathered in the U of A Council Chambers to hear from the coalition’s co-chairs: the Hon. Lisa Raitt, former Conservative cabinet minister and deputy leader of the official opposition, and the Hon. Anne McLellan, former Liberal MP and deputy prime minister and a previous professor, associate dean, and dean of the U of A’s Faculty of Law. Simon Dyer, the deputy executive director of the Pembina Institute (a member organization of the coalition) and Andrea Hepp, president of Atlas Low Carbon Storage Hub at Shell, also participated in the event.
The panel, moderated by Dean Marvin Washington, explored how decisions made by policymakers, businesses, community leaders and individuals influence Canada’s future prosperity. The discussion emphasized strategies for inclusive and sustainable economic growth, with a special focus on engaging students in these important conversations.
