Inaugural multidisciplinary podcasting bootcamp

From May 8-10, a collaboration between the Library's Digital Scholarship Centre, the Sound Studies Institute and the SpokenWeb partnership co-hosted an inaugural podcasting bootcamp.
During the three days of this hands-on workshop more than twelve representatives from the Faculties of Arts, the departments of Biological Sciences and Electrical & Computer Engineering, as well as the Centers and Institutes Women & Gender Studies, Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, Canadian Literature Centre, Parkland Institute and Library and Museums actively participated.
Expert instructors included SpokenWeb/DSC postdoctoral fellow Chelsea Miya, SSI's Programming Manager Tom Merklinger, Digital Scholarship Specialist Sarah-Jeanne Bélec and Digital Curation Librarian, Sean Luyk. The final day of the bootcamp we were joined by Kate Moffatt, PhD student in English at Simon Fraser University, and SpokenWeb podcast producer for an engaging discussion on podcasts as alternative modes of scholarly knowledge mobilization.
Instructors guided students through the creation of a 5-minute "research story," teaching them a variety of podcast pre-production and production skills including audio recording, editing, interviewing, building an audience and podcast dissemination.
